Southwest Nova Scotia has some of the best canoeing in the world. We have beautiful rivers and thousands of lakes, many of them connected by portages. Historically, the portage is a part of Canadian canoe experience and lore. For long excursions it is not to be avoided but for many trips and extended paddling it is not necessary.
Our general landscape is glacially influenced with clear lakes and rivers, many beautiful erratic rock formation, sand beaches, and low classification rapids. Â For the ultimate get-away paddlers may venture into the Tobeatic Wilderness area.
Our site provides information on places where permission has been granted for launching. However, if you see an attractive site not listed as public access local property owners are usually glad to give permission for access and maybe some advice.
