Outer Island or Bon Portage is located off the southwest coast of Nova Scotia, it was here that the book We Keep a Light was written by Evelyn M. Richardson. The Bon Portage Lighthouse is one of the many scenic lighthouses that can be enjoyed as you paddle by the island.

Bon Portage or Outer Island is now owned by Acadia University and is used from spring until fall by Acadia University biology students. It is here that the migratory bird count is done regularly and banding of migrant birds. For more information about Bon Portage Island visit their web page:
